Transfer goes 2-for-5 in loss to George Washington.

DeLand, Fla. - Transfer catcher Bobby Ryan (Damascus, Md.) continued to feast on the pitching at the Amtrak Invitational, but the Terps (1-2, 0-0 ACC) will go home hungry after winning one of three games in the tournament.

Ryan went 2-for-5 with an RBI, capping off a weekend in which we went 9-for-13 (.692) with two RBI, while Kyle George (Bel Air, Md.) followed up his two-home run performance with a double and a run scored in the 11-3 loss to George Washington (2-1).

The Colonials' did the most damage in an eight-run fourth inning. Up to that point, starter Chris Bowen (Glenwood, Md.) had been cruising, allowing an unearned run in the first and mowing down George Washington hitters in the second and third.

With the game tied 1-1 in the fourth, George Washington used six straight singles and three Terp fielding errors to rack up eight runs and put the game out of reach. Chris Barry reached base twice in the inning, which featured a two-run single by Brad Rosenblat and an RBI-double by Geoff Milsom.

Todd Ainsworth (Hershey, Pa.), who made 13 starts last season, was unable to bail Bowen out of the inning, allowing all of his inherited runners to score. Ainsworth got things under control, pitching two scoreless innings before giving way to relievers Brad Lyons (Massapequa, N.Y.), Josh Andrews (Monrovia, Md.) and Jeremy Hunt (Tampa, Fla.).

Justin Maxwell (Olney, Md.) and Anthony Buffone (Manalapan, N.J.) each recorded their first RBI of the year, while Ryan, George and Buffone each extended their hitting streaks to three games.

Twenty-one of the Terps' 32-man roster saw action in the game.

Maryland heads home from Florida with just one win, though it came against tournament host and nationally ranked No. 18 Stetson. Last year, the Terps won two of three games at the Charleston Crab Shootout to begin a season in which they would eventually win a team-record 34 games.

George Washington takes home two wins, winning an 11-inning contest against Stetson and losing another 11-inning game the following day to Kentucky.

NOTES: Collegiate Baseball freshman All-American honorable mention Jason Maxey (Columbia, Md.) will miss 4-to-6 weeks after undergoing wrist surgery last week. The sophomore catcher/infielder's 17 home runs last season were second on the team only to Oakland A's first round selection John McCurdy, and came in less at bats.
