In celebration of the 21st annual National STUDENT-Athlete Day, on Friday, April 4, Maryland Athletics welcomed the entire eighth-grade population from Cradlerock School in Columbia, MD. This marks the third consecutive year that Cradlerock has partnered with Terrapin student-athletes in recognition of this event.

Celebrated annually on April 6 since 1987, National STUDENT-Athlete Day is America's day to celebrate outstanding student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contributions to the community. It is also a time to recognize those parents, teachers, coaches and school systems which make it possible for young people to find the balance between academics and athletics. For eight consecutive years, Maryland Athletics has used this event to welcome local middle schools students to campus to emphasize the importance of academic achievement, while exposing them to the world of colleges and universities and offering them a glimpse into the lives student-athletes.

During the course of the day, Cradlerock students enjoyed a campus tour, a guest speaker luncheon with former Terrapin standout and NFL Pro Bowler Kevin Glover, and interactive games and sports with Terrapin student-athletes. The day concluded with an autograph session and a visit from Testudo.

Afterwards, Cradlerock School Assistant Principal Mark Murray shared his appreciation with the staff and student-athletes for welcoming the school back for another year. He went on to add, "Based on the income disparity within our student population, some of our kids may have never thought they had the opportunity to visit or go to college. If this event inspires just one of our kids to pursue a college education when they previously thought otherwise, then it was well worth the trip."
